Finding the right therapist is about finding the right connection..

My name is Rachel Gitelson and I specialize in the treatment of individuals and families, and provide parenting support. Life is full of discomforts and I believe that we are all doing the best we can, given the resources we have. In my work with clients, I strive to offer a collaborative environment where our relationship is the foundation for your growth. I use a person-centered, mindfulness informed approach to my work, integrating cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic theories to treat the individual within the dynamics of their world, identifying what is and is not within your control and supporting you in making your way through the discomforts of your life. I support couples in the challenges of parenting in today’s world using a strengths-based perspective. Additionally, I offer supervision to licensed therapists.

I received my Bachelors of Arts from Colby College in 2000, graduating with a major in psychology and a minor in education. I received my Master of Social Work from Loyola University of Chicago in 2004, with a concentration in clinical practice. While in that program, I trained at Northwestern University’s Stone Institute of Psychiatry. I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, special education, court advocacy, and served as a family therapist at Bradley Hospital, a children's psychiatric teaching hospital for Brown University. I became a Certified Yoga Teacher in 2013 in order to fully immerse myself in my own mindfulness practice. I have been in psychotherapy private practice since 2018. I have had the privilege of supervising students from University of Southern Maine and University of New England at the Center for Grieving Children, as well as supervised conditionally licensed therapists at WellSpace Maine and WellSpace@Work.
